A Dance to Remember

 Hey guys! I am back ! 

I know I kind of took a long break cause of my exams school and what not. So this time I came up with something different..... A story! 

I love reading stories but writing stories  is something I always wanted to try out, so for the first time I did write one. I hope all of you have fun reading!!!.

 

Jade, a girl with little money but big dreams. She had lived her entire life in an orphanage.  She had a dream that she really wanted to fulfil and that was her dream of becoming a dancer!  But alas! She did not have enough money even to get her own food, joining a dance institute well, seemed to remain a dream for her.

On the other hand, Kenzie was a really rich girl with the same dream of dancing, her dad enrolled her in the best dance Academy in the city. She was a skillful dancer. Jade too lived in the same city and every day she used to peep through a glass paned window in the dance academy which showed the room where the students practiced. Jade noted each and every step the dancers took and her longing to join the dance academy grew more day by day. 

One day while Jade was looking through the glass window in the institute, she was caught spying by one of the workers there named Lucas. 

Lucas questioned Jade kindly, “What are you doing here? I have never seen you before.” 

Jade unsure of what to say, confesses the truth. She replies to Lucas in the same kind manner explaining her longing to join the dance academy. After hearing Jade’s reason Lucas feels pity for Jade and decides to help her.  Lucas himself being in need of money knows he can’t enrol Jade in the dance school hence he gives her an idea. 

He says Jade to talk to the head of the academy asking for a job to do in the academy itself that way Jade can observe and learn more by watching the dance students. Jade overjoyed by this plan agrees to Lucas and thanks him. Lucas then, takes Jade to the head of the Dance academy whose name is Marvin.

Lucas leads Jade into a decorated corridor, at the end of the corridor is a heavily wooden carved door with a gold-plated name plate which said ‘Marvin Boston’ in large font and below in smaller letters ‘Chairperson of Steps Dance Academy’. Jade noted everything in awe.  Lucas knocked on Marvin’s door. It was opened by Marvin’s personal assistant Antonio. 

Antonio studied Jade keenly and asked Lucas the reason for his arrival. Lucas said Antonio that Jade wanted to talk to Marvin. Antonio turned back to Marvin, he gestured Antonio to let Jade in.

Jade nervously turned towards Lucas, he gave her a reassuring smile and a pat on her back and gently urged her forward. Antonio moved aside and led Jade in. She gasped as she saw the room. It was nothing like she had ever seen before she uttered a silent “wow”. There was a table in the centre of the room and behind the table sat Marvin. He beckoned Jade towards him with a nod. Jade slowly stepped forward and gave Marvin a shy smile. Marvin smiled back and asked Jade the reason for her presence. Jade introduced herself and asked him for any job in the Academy.

Marvin gave her a thoughtful glance and asked her, “Are you fine with any job Jade?” 

Jade nodded her head.  Marvin paused for a moment and then spoke, “Umm... There is a vacancy for a job involving organizing of props on stage and maintaining them. Are you fine with this?”

Jade was extremely happy to hear this, she immediately agreed to this job. Marvin said Jade to come for this job from tomorrow. She happily nodded in acknowledgement to Marvin, thanked him and walked out of the door humming to herself. 

Jade just couldn’t wait for tomorrow!

The Steps Dance Academy was an incredible place to learn dance. Many students from across used to come and learn in this institute. There were two close friends learning dance in the Academy – Louis and Jace. Louis was one of the best dancers in the academy and Jace who was not much of a dancer was admired by everyone for his good looks and most importantly he was Kenzie’s brother.

One day Louis and Jace were having some fun when Jace noticed a pretty girl standing with a prop in her hand. Jace immediately was stunned by her beauty and brought her to Louis’ attention. Louis eager by his friend’s curiosity goes to talk with the girl, taking Jace along with him.

It had only been two days since Jade had started her job in the Academy and she had already learnt many new dance steps, yet she still couldn’t find a proper place to practice them. She was leaning on a pillar and thinking about this when she saw two boys of her age walking towards her. She immediately turned to walk away when one of the boys called out to her. She turned around and gave them a shy smile.

The boys stood before her and one of them extended his hand and introduced himself, “Hey! My name is Jace and this is my friend Louis I have never seen you here before, are you new to work here?”

Jade shook Jace’s hand and introduced herself as a part of the crops organizing team.

Jace who didn’t want the talk to stop continued, “You seem to have the knack for dancing, have you ever tried to dance?”

Jade who had never in her life ever been asked a question about her longing to dance was overjoyed to answer the question. She in her excitement blurted out everything about her interest in dance including Lucas’s plan. She immediately tried to cover her mistake but the damage was already done. The boys looked at each other in surprise but then smiled. To Jade’s surprise Louis suggested her a place to practice and also said that Jace and he will tutor Jade an hour every day. Jade squealed with joy and thanked the boys. Jade now felt that her dream really could come true! 

The next day Jace was eagerly waiting for Jade. That is when he saw Marvin saying something to Antonio in an upset manner. Jace being curious stood behind a pillar listened.

Jace heard Marvin saying to Antonio, “Oh! The international girls dance championship is coming up and we need two girls to dance in it. Until now only Kenzie has been doing well. I just don’t know who to select for the other participant. I really wish I can get someone up to my expectations!” Jace not much interested in this conversation saw Louis and Jade coming together. His heart leapt up in sight of Jade and he ran towards his friends.

Antonio after a long time had a grin on his face. He was sick of being Marvin’s baby sitter (that is what he called it).  He had joined this job only in the hope of overthrowing Marvin and taking over the institute. At last, he had a ray of hope. He knew, if Marvin doesn’t get a good dancer and the performance fails, it will be a great shame to Marvin and he will have to resign. Antonio was having the time of his life.

On the other hand, Jade was also having the time of her life. Both her new friends were awesome dancers. Even the boys were surprised by Jade’s talent. She was a fluid dancer. Even Jace who had studied in this academy for five years couldn’t dance as good as her.  While watching her dance a sudden thought struck Jace. 

He immediately said,

 “Hey Jade…”

“Yes” Jade replied

Jace continued “Isn’t one of you wish to win the international dance tournament?”

“Yes, of course!” she said her voice filled with joy.

Then Jace narrated what he had overheard Marvin speaking to Louis and Jade. Louis had a huge smile on his face but Jade was hesitant. She asked the boys whether Marvin will take a poor girl like her. They assured her saying that he will. The boys planned to go and ask Marvin about this the next day. 

None of the young dancers knew that they were being watched and to their misfortune they were being overheard by Antonio himself. Antonio was fuming in anger. He could see his dreams crashing in front of him. He immediately formulated a plan in his mind.
