Let's know more about Krishna's Butterball in Mahabalipuram in Tamilnadu.....




The rock that you see here is called as Krishna's Butterball located in Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu

As a matter of fact all of you know that any rock that is located in a sloppy area is supposed to roll down due to the gravitational pull..... but this rock over here has stood in a sloppy area without the slightest movement for the past 1200 years withstanding various kinds of natural disasters.

Krishna's Butterball
This rock is located in  Mahabalipuram in the state of Tamilnadu. It is 6 meters high, 5 meters wide. It sits at an angle of 45 degree. Weighing around 250 tons it stands unmovable for over 1200 years . This rock is also called as Vaanirai Kal which in Tamil means The Stone of the Sky God.
This place is also an UNESCO World Heritage Site.



Why is it called as Krishna's Butterball??
Lord Krishna's favourite food is butter. So there is a myth that this rock is a drop of butter dropped by Lord Krishna when he was a child.

Other Interesting facts abouts Krishna's Butterball........
Another legend says that this rock was put in place by the Gods to show that they were more powerful and superior to the mortals.


The Pallava King Narasimhavarman attempted to move the rock multiple times using various methods to protect it from the sculptors.... but in the end he had to give up on vain as the rock did not budge an inch.

In the year 1908 The Governor of Madras Arthur Lawley wanted to move the rock as he feared for the destruction of the village below. It is said that in the attempt 7 elephants were used to remove the rock but the rock didn't show any sign of moving. In the end he too gave up his plans.

Krishna's Butterball led to the creation of the toy called as Tanjavur Bommai. 

It is a Roly poly toy made up of terracotta....that is, how much ever it is pushed towards any side it refrains from falling and comes back to is original position just like how Krishna's Butterball refrains from moving from its position
